Family company build luxury pods for the first artificial surf park

Armadilla, which makes eco-friendly spaces for outdoor living and work, is building luxury holiday flats for Wavegarden Scotland, the first inland surf destination chosen by the local authority, in a deal worth about £1.75 million.

Archie Hunter, chief executive of Armadilla, says: "A number of factors attracted Wavegarden Scotland to working with us to provide luxury self-catering accommodation at its unique facility in Ratho which is sure to attract visitors from far and wide.

This is happening because Armadillo is aiming for annual turnover of around £5m for the next two to three years, compared with pre-pandemic levels of around £2m.

Armadilla, a Scottish company based in Midlothian, began manufacturing and delivering luxury pods to hotels and hotel groups over a decade ago.

The company has been awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise for its innovation achievements.

Full-scale construction on Wavehold Scotland's £55million leisure and recreation complex in Ratho, on the outskirts of Edinburgh, commenced last month.
