Popeyes Chicken to open first restaurant in Scotland near Glasgow

An American food giant has hinted at the date of opening for the new Popeyes restaurant that will also become the first drive-through restaurant in Great Britain.

A drive-through restaurant is due to launch later this year at Barrhead's new retail park on Glasgow Road, although the firm have not yet confirmed the precise opening date.

Those who order online and raise money will have roadside parking and the new restaurant will have 56 seats for evening meals and 16 seats for alfresco.

The viral hype began in the summer of 2019, when Popeyes tweeted that it would sell a new sandwich for $3.99 - fried chicken with cucumber and mayonnaise or savoury Cajun sauce on a brioche bun that

became a viral phenomenon that sold out and drove fans wild.

Tom Crowley, Popeyes UK CEO, said: "We are delighted to announce that Popeyes will open its doors for the first time in Scotland later this year.

Scotland's fast food fans will finally be able to grab the chicken sandwich that 'broke the internet' in the wake of Popeyes Chicken confirming it is opening near Glasgow.
