Scottish food and drink exports reach record high of more than £8bn

Industry body Scotland Food & Drink, which analysed figures released last night by HM Revenue & Customs, said the increase was driven by strong growth in Scottish whisky and other categories such as cereals.

The export value of Scottish food and beverages grew by £1.9bn over 2021, an increase of 30.6% over the levels it represented before Covid.

Scotland Food & Drink reports strong progress in Scotch whisky in Singapore, India and Taiwan.

This happens despite another challenging year for the sector as a result Of Cost Pressure, Shortages, Inflation.

This is 8.1% higher than the peak before the 2019 Covid and "demonstrating a faster recovery than producers in the rest of the UK, which remains -1% on 2019" according to Scotland Food & Drink (Scotland Food & Drink).

Scotch whisky exports grew by 37.2% on a year ago, equivalent to growth of 1.7bn pounds.
