The Langham London introduces revolutionary food waste management system

The technology is housed in a stainless steel container with a door into which employees can deposit food waste. Microorganisms, water, recycled plastic bio chips and oxygen break down the waste using aerobic digestion.

Bob van den Oord, managing director of the Langham London (pictured left), said: “The Langham Hospitality Group has a commitment to being a sustainable company, and at the Langham London we strive for continuous improvement.

“While we’ve held a Gold Earthcheck Certification for four years and operate a zero waste to landfill policy, we actively look for opportunities to break new ground in our sustainable practices and our collaboration with Orca Enviro Systems is a great example of this approach.”

The Langham has made a zero waste to landfill commitment, with the recycling of solid waste currently at 73%.

Andrew Emery, managing director of Orca Enviro Systems (pictured right), added: “We’re excited to be working closely with the Langham London in their work to reduce the environmental impact of organic waste.

“The addition of this new technology demonstrates how sustainability is a key focus for them, and we look forward to seeing other hotels follow their lead.”
