The Centre in Livingston becomes the first shopping centre in UK to offer environmentally friendly paper bags

Customers visiting The Centre can pick up a paper bag for 20p. The bags are reusable, tear and water resistant, compostable and biodegradable. They can be found at the customer service desk.

Bosses hope this will satisfy a new demand from customers for alternatives to plastic bags, which are offered in most stores.

A director at The Centre said: "We are really excited to be launching our reusable paper carrier bag to help reduce the amount of plastic in the environment, which is in response to customer demand.

"As plastic pollution continues to be high up on everyone's agenda we felt it was important to listen to our customers and offer them an alternative environmentally-friendly carrier bag.

"Introducing paper bags into the mall not only gives shoppers a choice and a solution if they visit without their own bags but also represents our shopping centre's environmental policies."
