Visa ban for ‘low-skilled workers’ could have devastating effects on hospitality

After the post-Brexit plans were unveiled, industry leaders came forward to caution that it could damage the sector.

The new points-based system requires migrants to have “70 points” to be eligible to apply.

Concerns for various industries have been raised. With Nicola Sturgeon calling the system “devastating”.

The worry for the hospitality sector is that there is no obvious route for the workforce under the new system. The Government confirmed there will be no alternative route for “low-skilled” workers.

The hospitality industry is widely known for relying on EU labour and has already began facing shortages according to UKHospitality. The warned that these proposals could lead to the closure of businesses.

The Home Office has answered these criticisms by telling businesses they will “need to adjust”.
