McDonalds plan to open 60 new UK restaurants in 2020

McDonald’s has announced that it is committing £1bn to its UK and Ireland business, some of which will be used to open 60 new restaurants.

The announcement came after the chain released its full-year results. UK CEO Paul Pomroy said the results showed “strong growth” through a difficult time for the hospitality industry. He has stated that the fast food giant will spend £1bn in the UK over three years with a particular focus on the “digital experience”.

McDonald’s seen a global sales growth of almost 6% last year. Additionally, it said that its partnership with UberEats had accounted for 10% of sales.

They are currently trialling a new grab and go service in London. The feature allows customers who do not wish to sit in access to smaller self-order screens.
