Greene King sites see 265% sales increase in vegan dishes

Greene King reported seeing a huge sales increase of 265% in 2019 of vegan dishes. In the first handful of weeks in 2020, the pub giant seen a further 14% growth, credited to Veganuary.

The company made huge positive moves for vegan consumers last year, offering 45% more vegan choice across the brand.

Phil Thomas, Chief commercial officer of Greene King said that the change was in response to new consumer demand for vegan options. He was however surprised at the rate of growth.

He said: “I think there was a longstanding assumption that vegan food was generally unexciting, but because of the creativity and passion we’re putting into developing our plant-based dishes, we’re increasingly seeing traditional meat-eaters actually choosing a vegan option when dining out on the strength of the dish itself."

The brand has announced they will be rolling out a vegan pizza in Hungry Horse pubs next month. They also expect vegan food sales to rise again this year.
