Belfast Zoo facing closure

Belfast Zoo facing closure

Belfast Zoo is at risk of being forced to close due to a motion being presented to City Hall by Sinn Féin which condemns the zoo as unethical.

The party has insisted that they would rather see jobs saved and the zoo transformed into a “world-class” facility rather than being closed.

The “ambitious plan to transform Belfast Zoo” includes relocating animals back to their “natural habitats” and using the premises for conservation schemes which would look to protect species such as red squirrels as well as other undecided attractions. One councillor suggested a “Tayto style” park.

The councillor also stated that the poor treatment of animals for the sake of our entertainment is unacceptable in this day and age. He wanted to assure current employees that the party has no plans to cut jobs.
