Britain's 'worst hotel chain' Britannia buys city centre Premier Inn for around £8.5m

Premier Inn Glasgow City Centre hotel was sold to Britannia Hotels and now boasts 278 rooms.

The Cheshire-based firm bought the 278-bedroom Glasgow hotel with an asking price of £8.5million.

It comes as Whitbread, the owner of Premier Inn, is reorganising its Glasgow base of its hotels after the opening of its 249-bed Premier Inn and bar Block restaurant in St Enoch Square that was opened last June.

The deal brings Britannia's total to 64 hotels with almost 12.300 rooms available.

Alex Slowly, chief executive of Britannia, told business news website: "I am delighted with our latest acquisition which will be our fifth hotel in Scotland.

Brian Sheldon, regional director for Scotland, said the group experienced an increase in demand for hotel accommodation in the city centre.
