Theresa May to make businesses reveal their ethnicity pay gaps

Theresa May has launched a consultation into pay reporting in response to the findings of the Race Disparity Audit, which revealed significant disparities in the pay and progression of ethnic minority employees.

Employers, who are already compelled to publish their gender pay gaps, will be invited to share their views on further mandatory reporting.

Businesses are also being asked to sign up to a new Race at Work Charter, which commits them to principles and actions to drive forward changes.

May said: “Our focus is now on making sure the UK’s organisations, boardrooms and senior management teams are truly reflective of the workplaces they manage, and the measures we are taking today will help employers identify the actions needed to create a fairer and more diverse workforce.”
